If you happen to be wandering through the woods of northeast Ohio this week, you might want to keep your eyes open — and maybe listen for unusually heavy footsteps.
A cluster of alleged Bigfoot sightings has researchers buzzing after several witnesses reported seeing large, hairy figures in the same Ohio county within just a few days. In the world of cryptozoology, that kind of sudden burst of activity has a name: a “flap.”
The reports first surfaced through Jeremiah Byron, host of the Bigfoot Society podcast, who said he began receiving multiple accounts from residents near Mantua Center in early March. Two witnesses claimed they spotted a large, hairy creature on March 6 and again the following day. Then things got even stranger.
Within days, Byron said three more possible sightings popped up in the same county, followed by two additional reports from locals who believe they may have crossed paths with the legendary creature.
For Bigfoot enthusiasts, that sudden pile-up of encounters is exactly the kind of pattern they look for.
A Sudden Burst of Sasquatch Sightings
According to summaries shared by investigators, the sightings described creatures ranging from roughly six to ten feet tall, sometimes seen moving through wooded areas and sometimes appearing briefly before disappearing back into the trees.
One witness reportedly described a brown, nine-foot-tall figure. Another account mentioned deep grunting sounds and large footprints. Yet another described what looked like a massive black shadow moving through the woods.
None of the sightings have produced photos or physical evidence so far, which is fairly typical for Sasquatch reports.
Still, believers say the concentration of encounters in a short window is intriguing.
“It’s normal for there to be Bigfoot sightings all over the United States,” Byron noted, “but it’s not normal to have multiple sightings in a small area within a short number of days.”
Ohio Has a Long History With Bigfoot
If the reports sound familiar, that might be because Ohio already has its own chapter in Bigfoot lore.
Back in the late 1970s, a wave of sightings in the town of Minerva gave rise to the legend of the “Minerva Monster,” a supposed Bigfoot-like creature reportedly seen roaming the woods of eastern Ohio.
Whether the current sightings are connected to that history — or simply another case of mistaken identity in the woods — remains unclear.
So… Is Bigfoot Really Out There?
For now, the Ohio sightings remain firmly in the realm of eyewitness reports.
Without photos, tracks, or other evidence, skeptics say the encounters could easily be misidentified animals, shadows in the trees, or the occasional overactive imagination during a late-night hike.
But for Bigfoot believers, a sudden cluster of sightings like this is exactly the kind of mystery that keeps the legend alive.
And if nothing else, it gives residents of northeastern Ohio something unusual to talk about around the campfire — preferably while keeping a close eye on the tree line.
Just in case.
