In Whitehall, New York, there have been multiple reports from police officers and residents of strange sightings and what cryptozoologists refer to as “vocalizations” in the area.

For years and years, local folklore takes up a lot of headspace in the region that rests between the Adirondacks and Lake Champlain. Some of these occurrences date back to 1976 when one police officer experienced something he’d never forget — terrifying sounds coming echoing throughout the forest.

“Something that does not exist in the world is standing right there in front of me,” the officer told ESPN. “It’s etched into my mind forever, that feeling, like a hive of honey bees dumped into your brain. I thought I was going to spontaneously combust.”

So, why not have a pretty slick festival celebrating all of the strangeness?

Enter the Sasquatch Festival and Calling Contest.

Annually, one of the area’s wildest competitions takes place and dozens of people hop on stage to let loose and unleash their scariest Bigfoot holler. It’s all in hopes that they’ll take home the top honors in the Whitehall Sasquatch Calling Contest. Plus, there’s plenty of other fun to be had (if they don’t win), like food, music, Bigfoot merchandise, and more.

Well, the competition was tough and the panel of judges came to the conclusion that Grant Kennedy should be this year’s champion.
