When you move into a new home, you expect to hear the typical creaks and cracks of the foundation, scuffed up paint on the walls, and maybe some oddities with the architecture. However, this one would send chills down anyone’s spine.

32-year-old Jonathan Lewis moved into his new house recently and one of the first things he did was remove the plasterboard that a previous owner had used to cover up the space beneath the stairs.

“There was a wire coming out where the previous owners had the fridge but I didn’t know where the wire was plugged in so I knocked through a bit of the plasterboard to see what was there,” said Lewis.

Instead of wires and random bugs living in the walls, he was flabbergasted to discover the freaky old rag doll sitting inside the space wearing a pinstripe dress and clutching a small piece of paper.

“Dear reader/ new home owner, thank you for freeing me!” the note read. “My name is Emily. My original owners lived in this house in 1961. I didn’t like them so they had to go. All they did was sing and be merry. It was sickening. Stabbing was my choice of death for them so I hope you have knives. Hope you sleep well.”

According to the estate agent, the kitchen had only been fitted about five years ago, meaning that the doll had most likely been placed there as a joke by the previous owners.

“I’ll be honest, I found the whole thing hilarious,” said Lewis. “I’d probably do the exact same thing.”
